“We are late bloomers.
Dick started running in his mid-30’s 35 years ago, initially to get fitter for hunting, but he soon got into the road-running and the harrier scene. After a while he began running trails and bush tracks around Dunedin and fell in love with this type of running.
I (Kirsty) started running in my early 40’s after watching and volunteering for NZ Ironman for several years in Taupo. I loved the event and watching people of all shapes, sizes and sporting abilities complete such a feat, it made me think that maybe I could do something too. So the very next day, I started running – a lamp post at a time with a half marathon as my first goal. I was hooked and discovered a love of running the many off-roads tracks around Taupo.
A couple of our highlights – Dick receiving his 5 year Kepler Challenge medal… 21 years after completing Kepler No. 4! And me completing my first off-road marathon – The Motutapu.
We recently fulfilled our dream of moving to Te Anau and feel privileged to live in such a stunning place that offers so many great tracks and trails right on our doorstep.”
