“A bike can only take you so far. When the road ends and the trail gets too steep, only your own two feet can take you further. I run so I can see more, go further and explore higher.

I think I’ve always wanted to be a runner. I have always been active, slowly wandering around mountains, rivers and beaches. In high school a few of my friends were into adventuring racing and it always looked like a lot of fun. I jumped into it and shortly after found myself with shin splints. While I kept up the mountain biking side of the sport, the next seven years presented countless repetitions of the ‘start running, get shin splints, stop”.

Earlier last year I came across a wonderful physio who sorted out my issues once and for all – woohoo! Running now takes me to new places when the bike trails run out. I love to explore what the mountains and valleys my little pocket of the country has to offer and running gives me the fitness and energy to do this. And there’s something special about the hop skip and jump in your stride as you bounce down a trail without another person in sight!”
