“My whys are friendships, health and happiness. I started running more to meet new people… and that worked out pretty well, as I met my gorgeous partner and some amazing people, who are and remain best friends. I have always been active and I am a believer in being fit and active to keep healthy. And running makes me happy – my achievements, the people I run with and the places I see on the way.
When I was diagnosed with breast cancer 3 years ago, the day before my first Ultra Marathon, it was a shock… but it was family, friends and my amazing running buddies that got me through. Running played a huge part in my recovery and was my motivation to get back to fitness following surgery and treatment. I needed to get back out there and tackle another Ultra!
I remember my specialist telling me after surgery that I would not be able to run for 3 months. I cried and cried. Needless to say (with his ok) I was back out there before that, and found another Ultra to set my sights on and train for. My very special running buddies were there every step of the way as I got myself back to run fit. It was the best day crossing the finish line feeling healthy and very happy!!”
