“I run because I can. I run for me time. I run to keep fit. I run for my mental health. I run to be sociable. There’s a load of reasons I run but the main reason I run is to ‘Live the Dash’.
Ref: The Dash Poem, By Linda Ellis
My first official running event was 2008. I can’t remember why but I remember I was a mountain biker at the time and I think I just wanted to branch out. I used to smoke then too and I’d have a cigarette before a run, cough up a lung during, then come back and have a couple more to ease the coughing. I no longer smoke!
Running has been part of my sporting endeavours over the years including various distance triathlons, duathlons, multisport events, road running and more recently the adventure of trail running. It’s becoming less and less about the time and more about the journey.
I’m blessed that I can run and encourage and support anyone that is thinking about starting. There’s no such thing as ‘just’ this distance or that – it’s all relative. Never take that for granted. Very few people will walk out the door and just run a marathon without training. I’m more inspired by those that are running their first 5km than those that run a marathon.
Live the dash!”
