“I have great childhood memories hanging out with the kids from my parents’ running club and supporting my Mum whilst she ten times ran the Comrades Marathon, which is one of the worlds largest and oldest ultramarathons held in South Africa.
During Mum’s training I got to join in on a few club runs and I also started doing Cross Country at age 7. I guess I’ve always been a natural runner but it‘s never been something that I was super passionate about, not until I started running again in 2017.
I started off doing some parkruns back in South Africa and did a couple of community runs along the beachfront when we lived in a small coastal town. Since moving to Wellington and New Zealand in 2018, my passion for running has grown tremendously! There are an endless amount of epic trails and incredible views here which motivate me to reach the summits.
I’m very competitive, especially against myself. I‘ve set some big goals for next year – Tarawera Ultra Marathon 50km; reaching the summit of Mt Taranaki in a decent time; and hopefully doing The WUU2k. Finding the time to train is a bit of a challenge with a 6 month old baby & a toddler, but I guess being a Teacher comes with the benefits of school holidays!
I run for the enjoyment, to compete against others, to free up some space in my mind and to push myself harder each time.”
