“Never in my life did I think I’d be a runner. At Spotswood College I used to try to cut the cross country training. I’d get caught and be made to do it again…

I became a runner after having both our boys. They were weeny when I started walking up and down my rural mountain side road, with both in the pram. I got so fit from walking, one day I just thought, I wonder if I could run? Off I went running with both kids. Surprised myself and ran 4km while pushing them. And that’s when I became a runner… from that moment. So I continued running with both kids – they would have their afternoon naps in the pram, and I’d get fitter. Then I went on to train for my first half marathon at Lake Mangamahoe. And from there I continued doing more running events, and completed a handful more half marathons, and also one 50km event.

A few years back my neighbour convinced me to join a trail running group, said it would be really good for me. And it totally has been! Meet new friends and they have taught me lots about running.

I have a few goals left to tick off. My biggest one would be to run a full marathon before I’m 40, or else when I’m 40… I’ll procrastinate a tad more for now though…”
