“In high school I hated PE and cross country. So it was a total out of the blue thing to suddenly enjoy doing distance wogging.

As for my WHY? In 2004 I had a cardiac arrest… I was training for the Napier Marathon Clinic Half Marathon. Needless to say I didn’t do it that year. In fact I I walked that half marathon three years later in 2007. Then nothing.

Until 2016 when I was a Heart Racer for the Heart Foundation at the Auckland Marathon. I did the half and I have been back every year since. In 2018 I was in hospital with gallstones 10 days before the Auckland event. I did the 12km traverse instead of the half that year.
Then in 2020 I had a free entry to Auckland, so I took on the Marathon!

My WHY is because I can. I live with a heart condition, renal artery aneurysms, and a scoliosis repair that is broken. But that doesn’t define me or stop me. If I can do all my half marathons, 10kms, parkruns with those conditions, ANYONE can.

My WHY is to prove that no mountain is too high if you have determination.
So get out there – adventure waits!”
