“Chloe and I met in the weekend before Christmas in 2016 – the evening before a race in Belgium over a beer or two (the race was Bello Gallico, the beer was La Chouffe).
We kept in touch after the race, ‘accidentally’ joining the same races in Belgium, Poland and Austria, ending up running 100 miles together a year later. Chloe, a kiwi, was living in Eastern Germany at that time, whereas I was living in Belgium. After too many 20hr bus rides across Europe to see each other over the weekend, I sold my van and moved in with Chloe. Six months later, we got married in a lighthouse in Denmark and, together with Alma, Chloe’s dog, started packing our bags to move to New Zealand.
After two years in Auckland (COVID didn’t speed things along), we have finally made it to our dream destination Wanaka and a year ago, we welcomed Ulysses (Uly) in our whānau, our furry friend that loves post-run napping as much as we do. There’s nothing like doing speed sessions together with a half-greyhound!”
