Over the past 6 years I’ve been more into trail running, I’ve run a lot of ultras and two multi ultra day events. My why has changed. I run these because I enjoy the journey, I love the places it takes me, the sense of achievement at the end of a race, and the people I meet along the way.

“Put simply, I run because I can. I know I am fortunate to be able to run, and to run well, and I don’t take that for granted.

I run for a variety of reasons and that reason has changed over the years and changes day to day. As a kid growing up I ran because I played team sports and it was part of the training. I also ran in cross country teams at schools. As I grew older and away from team sports, I realised how much I loved running alone. My ‘why’ during this time was because I enjoyed, and still do, the process of setting goals, working hard, seeing progress and achieving PB’s. I ticked off half marathons, and marathons, and running them in triathlons and Ironmans.

Nowadays I am creating my own events by running all the great walks of New Zealand and more in a year (one per month for the year I’m 40 – happy birthday to me!)
I am always amazed at how far you can push your body and mind when running and I believe the limit on what can be achieved lies fully within your own mind (injuries excluded!) This will continue to fuel my why as I wonder how far I can go whilst exploring new places.”
