“About two years ago I answered a random call and it was running inviting me out; and unbeknownst to me, this was the start of a journey of self-healing and discovery.
The call came when I realised I was spending all my energy helping others to achieve their goals and yet I was completely drained.
My love-hate relationship with running was mostly hate. I could not imagine running more than the recommended 30 mins a day, which we have all heard, but never really took notice of. In the early days it was hard, and I questioned its utility, but as the days, weeks and months passed a calm voice came. It took me a while to recognise that voice and I found solace for joy to replace doubt. Running was recharging me and it filled my long-emptied cup. And as I progressed to ultra-distances, I saw the beauty in what is innately in all of us. A very simple act that has a profound impact on people.
I am always stoked to pass people from all walks of life running. It does not have to be fast or long – running is running. I now run for my family and try to impart joy to my kids to enjoy life.”
