“I started running around 5 years ago; starting off with 4-5km on the treadmill, which then quickly progressed to 5 and 10k races, half marathons and trail marathons and Ultramarathons; the longest being the miler at TUM at the beginning of this year.
These days, most of my running takes place on the roads and bike tracks around Napier as this is my local area. My real passion however lies with trail running – my happy place for running is in the forest or New Zealand native bush.
Whilst I train hard, both running and at the gym, I don’t set myself targets or goal races. I run and train because I love the challenge of seeing what I can do and where I can push myself to. I also love knowing that I am fit enough to spontaneously sign up for a race or run a trail simply cause “it looks like an adventure” and “what could possibly go wrong”.
A couple of years ago I bought a Campervan and have since then spent several extended weekends travelling the North Island, exploring new trails and areas. The Lakes around Rotorua being my absolute favourite area in New Zealand so far.
For me running is not just a chance to explore and push my limits – it is also my me time. I put on music or a podcast and off I go into my own world, where nothing else matters bar the road or trek in front of me.”
