“My passion for running started along the Manawatu River pathway at Palmy parkrun. I admired the variety of joggers, walkers, sprinters and runners who got out there every Saturday… And it was ‘the power of this community’ that turned me into a runner!
When I discovered parkrun (thanks to my gorgeous friend Liz) I struggled so much with 5km. Feeling exceptionally exhausted, looking bright red and gasping for breath accurately reflects where I started. And I had never even heard of Strava!!! Fast forward 92 parkruns later and I’m proud to say ‘I think I might be addicted to running’.
The Manawatu River pathway continues to be my very favourite place to run. I feel connected, happy and at peace in this place. Running has definitely transformed me into a healthier and happier person. I’m also incredibly grateful for the new connections I’ve made being part of the Manawatu Striders community – this is the most empowering group of runners and its people like these guys (and ladies) that truly inspire me!
Running for me is about; new friends, new places and new goals.”
