“I don’t have a big obvious reason to explain why I started running. I used to run a bit many, many years ago, but mostly on the treadmill at the gym, or around the block. It complimented my weights training at the time and was simply called a cardio day, completely functional, and not overly fun.

The next couple of years were a mash together of running, injuries, physio visits, x-rays, strapping tape and being told that perhaps running is just not for you. It was frustrating and I nearly believed that me and running could not be friends. But part of me knew that something was just not quite right with my approach and that there had to be a solution. So, I researched the heck out of running, got some advice from a run coach and adjusted my running form. I spent the next year adjusting my running form from heavy heel strike to a more neutral landing and conditioning my muscles to let me move that way. It was one of the best decisions I have ever made and I am thankful every run I go on that I believed I could run.

In 2014, two kids later, I decided one night that I wanted to run. No spectacular aha moment, more like I could really do with looking after myself and maybe a run around the block would be a good place to start. That first run was pure agony. I ran a bit, walked a heap and everything hurt. But when I got home, I had a great sense of achievement and although it was really hard, I wanted to do it again.

My passion now for helping runners comes from my experiences as an unsupported, discouraged beginner runner. Nothing makes me happier than seeing our Life in Motion Run Club crew out there doing what they love….. well except maybe me and Jem hitting the trails together brings me just as much joy.

If you see me out running please say hi, stop for a chat, give Jem some pats or even better run with me!”
