“So for me, there are 2 reasons why I run. The 1st is to quiet the incessant monkey chatter that goes on in the ole brainbox. I suffer anxiety and my thoughts can run amok. I can go off for a run with the whole world’s woes sitting heavily on my shoulders and I always come back calm and all the shit is sorted, just like that! Easy right?
The 2nd is for my physical health. I have 2 autoimmune diseases that sometimes require hospital visits. I know without a doubt that keeping fit means my bounce back ability is twofold. I try to do everything I can to keep the ‘episodes’ at bay and running is a big fat part of that formulation.
I’ve run since being a young lass with my Dad (my way of bonding with him) and competitively in athletics. 100/200 metre sprints were my gig and I was fast, mostly winning. Today running distance, I’m a definite plodder, but my care factor is zilch. I enter events just wanting to finish, that’s my buzz, cos I believe it’s important to always run happy.”
