“I originally got into running back in high school to get fit for netball and now after a 10+ year break I have recently started to get into running again.
This is my first year living in Te Anau and I wanted to set myself a big personal goal, so am currently aiming to complete the Luxmore Grunt in December.
Looking at the mountains and Mount Luxmore from our lounge window is definitely a big lure for this event! And I wanted a running goal to increase my fitness and have something to work on for myself. I wanted to aim for the Luxmore because it’s a goal almost out of reach, but with a lot of effort, I think I can achieve it.
Starting running again this year has been tricky. My first few runs were particularly tough, I couldn’t finish a 5k and was very sore afterwards, but I wanted to keep trying! A lot of other people at my work are into running and I wanted to give it a really good crack before I gave up. I have also started getting some coaching which definitely holds me accountable. Now running just makes me feel so good!
My favourite after work activity is heading out for a run to Brod Bay to be amongst the bush and the amazing birdlife. I am also really enjoying meeting new people and learning more about running through the local parkrun community and Te Anau’s Monday running group.”
