“Chats, it’s all about the chats and friendships for me.

I ran cross country at school and mixed it up with rugby and swimming and mountain biking in the hills of Yorkshire. I went to university and kept up doing events; I entered the Great North Run Half, then got in the ballot for the London Marathon, did the Edinburgh Marathon five times in a row, all while spending a long time at university sitting and drinking beer. Once I got a proper job I didn’t exercise much and got bigger and slower, so I entered a couple of ultra marathons to get me a bit fitter.

Emigrating to New Zealand I went through another increase in body diameter. But relocating from Auckland to Queenstown gave me easy access to the mountains and some of the best trail running in the world.

Now I’m fully ensconced in the parkrun world, and training for events like the Kepler Challenge has introduced me to friends in some really great running groups. We’ve done some brilliant missions together, like running the Homer Tunnel and the Milford Track, and we have many more adventures planned.”
