“I run because it makes me feel good, it clears my head, and it’s so easy to do anywhere.
I lost a lot of weight and decided that instead of watching my children at our local running club, why not join myself, and I’ve never looked back. The friendships I made, the adventures I’ve had, have all been amazing.
I joined a local community fitness group a few years ago too, called Life in Motion run by Eve and Jason Southan. I have completed many HIIT classes with them. It has been amazing being a part of this group as it has taught me that to run well I need to be strong. I have loved exercising and running the trails with them.
I am also a member of the Hutt Valley Runners. This introduced me to training for long events, and to my surprise, I have now run the Rotorua Marathon 3 times, have been in a relay at the WUU2K, run around Rarotonga with my gorgeous daughter Dani, and have completed the 21K at Tarawera 3 times, plus many more.
I have a great running coach Mark Anderson who sets my programme each month, depending on what my goals are, and it really helps keep me on track. Running is amazing because you do not have to be a certain size or a certain weight, and other runners are really encouraging. All you need is a good pair of running socks, some Zeenya’s, and a good pair of running shoes.”
