“I have always run, mainly for sport fitness, but my love for running has really grown since moving to Wellington nearly 10 years ago. And I keep running for the adventure and the company. I am really grateful for running and the part it plays in my life by keeping me fit and connected to people, dog buddies and nature.
I love to run… why? Peaceful lush bush, climb to tops, then down those hills….fly!
I took a year off to travel and while based in the Lakes District in England for a couple of months, I discovered trail running. I was working split shifts in a hotel in the middle of nowhere, so to get a bit of space from the people I worked AND lived with, I would take off up the hills behind the hotel. It was winter so cold, so peaceful and beautiful.
Then when we were in Florence we came upon a night race while we were strolling the streets. The excitement and emotion in the air was amazing. The crowd was wild cheering the runners on. The feeling I had on that evening made me think, I want to be part of something like this one day.
Once we were home to New Zealand we ended up moving to Wellington, which seems like it was meant to be. We live so close to the bush, with all the loud birdsong, and trail runs whenever I like. Also there are so many amazing runners in Wellington who I have been lucky enough to meet through WoRM (back in the day) and now with Life in Motion Run Club.
Since I enjoy the excitement and sense of achievement with events I try to do one each year. I like to choose something that is a challenge and also means I get to explore new (sometimes otherwise off limit) areas of our beautiful country.
I love to run… why? Deep breathing, focused mind, then satisfaction!”
