“Just a mum who runs is how I describe myself. Running certainly doesn’t come natural to me – I was that kid in school who got her mum to write a note to get her out of cross country. It helped being asthmatic, but I could have done it if I tried, I just didn’t enjoy it. Then 8 years ago someone I know mentioned she was doing a fun run. She was doing the 5k. I thought nah that sounds too easy, 10k sounded better and really can’t be that far can it… mmm, little did I know. And that’s how it all began.
Then with 10 road half marathons under the belt I decided I needed a new challenge in 2019, so I signed up for Crater Rim Ultra 30k. I’d never run trail before and had no idea what was involved. I fell in love with trails though; the fact you’re conquering the distance rather than a time really appeals, as well as being able to get out in the fresh air for hours. With every run having its own challenge, and those endorphins once you’re done, it makes me keep going back.
This year I took it a step further and signed up to the Taupo Ultra 50k, which I have recently completed. So this mum runner has just become an Ultra runner and I couldn’t be more proud.
My motto is ‘don’t dream it, do it’.”
